Prep golfers hit the course for Iowa High School Athletic Association championship meets today as 35 sectional meets in all three classes across the state.
Decorah senior Andrew Peter will look to defend his individual state title, and help lead the Vikings back to the Class 3A state meet. While the first-day leaders were scoring higher Saturday, Decorah junior Andrew Peter went lower and won the Class 3A medalist competition in the boys’ state golf tournament at Harvester Golf Club in Rhodes.
Peter shot a 71 after an opening-day 81 and won the title with 152 strokes, one shot better than Independence senior Jake Thomas (73-80—153) in second. Peter’s 71 was the best round of the day by five shots.

Solon and Washington (Iowa) are second in their respective classes after the first day of state golf tournament action.
Solon, playing in Class 2A at Lake Panorama National Resort in Panora, is five shots back of Carroll Kuemper after 18 holes. Blake Bruene shot a 78 to pace the Spartans, who totaled 331 strokes Friday. Bruene is tied for fourth, and teammate Kyler Stahle is tied for eighth with an 81.
