Southeast Polk High School has suspended a starting player on the boys’ basketball team while the Rams play in the state tournament.
School officials say Tony Sandquist must sit out two games for violating the student conduct code last month for attending a party where alcohol was present.
The decision came on Wednesday, hours before the Rams beat West Des Moines Dowling in a Class 4-A quarterfinal game. The Rams face Marion Linn-Mar on Friday.

But the Linn-Mar Lions had Matt Bohannon, and that was enough to make it back to the state basketball tournament. Barely.
Bohannon was huge offensively and defensively as No. 2 Linn-Mar escaped Pleasant Valley’s upset bid, 49-46, in a Class 4A substate final last night at the U.S. Cellular Center. It’s the seventh consecutive trip to Des Moines for the Metro’s version of Basketball High.
