IOWA CITY — Virginia Johnson’s voice quivered, but her choice never wavered.
An all-state junior forward at Iowa City High, Johnson orally committed to play women’s basketball at the University of Iowa Sunday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
“I was really nervous telling Coach (Lisa) Bluder,” Johnson said moments after being mobbed by her future teammates. “My voice was shaking.

University of Iowa head wrestling coach Tom Brands said he would always support an athlete that is willing to fully commit himself to multiple sports on a Division I level.

Marcus Paige took an unofficial visit to the University of Iowa on Wednesday, and came home with a scholarship offer from the men’s basketball program.
“I’m pretty excited,” Paige said Thursday night. “I liked the coaching staff. It’s a great school. It’s the Big Ten.
“Of course I’ll consider (Iowa).”
