SPRINGVILLE, Iowa - Midland defeated Springville Friday night in an eight man football season opener, 22-12, and snapped a 20-game losing streak in the process. Midland hadn't won since October 12, 2007. Ryan Leonard led the way with 37 carries for 218 yards and two touchdowns for Midland. Tri-Rivers showdown to Alburnett

ALBURNETT — Amber Wieland inflicted plenty of pain to go around. Geography, enrollment attracting Lisbon to Tri-Rivers

The western thumb of the Big East Conference, Lisbon is somewhat isolated. "We're on the outside edge," said Jim Schultz, the school's athletics director. "Eight (of our 11 conference rivals) are at least an hour and 15 minutes away." So it's time to look elsewhere. Lisbon has formally applied for membership into the Tri-Rivers Conference. O’Donnell takes the reins at Marion

MARION -- Brian O'Donnell has done the rebuilding thing before. So this ought to seem mild. O'Donnell, who led the Springville High School girls' basketball program from obscurity to two trips to the state finals, has been hired as the coach at Marion.
