Solon’s era in Class 3A started the way last year’s ended, with a lopsided victory. The Spartans, three-time Class 2A champions, won their 42 game in a row at DeWitt.

The top-ranked Spartans won the Class 2A district final, 11-1 in six innings, advancing to play Cascade in a substate final Tuesday. Cascade defeated Dyersville Beckman last night, 13-4.

Day pitches Solon past North Cedar

SOLON, Iowa - It was Nick Day's night Saturday. Day pitched and batted the top-ranked Solon baseball team to a 14-4 victory over North Cedar in the class 2A district opener at the Spartans' field. Solon advanced to play Regina in a second-round game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Solon. Golf postseason hits stride today

Prep golfers hit the course for Iowa High School Athletic Association championship meets today as 35 sectional meets in all three classes across the state. Decorah senior Andrew Peter will look to defend his individual state title, and help lead the Vikings back to the Class 3A state meet. A mere appearance wasn’t enough. "We weren’t happy just qualifying (for the Drake Relays)," said Solon boys’ track coach Mark Sovers. "It was a great opportunity to be on that kind of stage.
