A couple of area kids came within seconds of pulling off big upsets.
Leading 6-5, Mount Vernon’s Josh Haug was taken down as time expired in a 171-pound quarterfinal loss to Perry’s Kane Seeley. Haug, a senior, came in unranked. Seeley was fifth.
At 112, Williamsburg’s Jesse Vercande couldn’t get free from Denver-Tripoli’s No. 4 Gunnar Wolfensperger and lost 5-4 in three overtimes.
