The Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association have released their final set of Class 1A and 2A dual rankings. The rankings are used to seed the state duals tournament. Teams across the state are competing in regional dual meets Wednesday to earn a berth to the State Duals tournament Feb. 27 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

Mother nature has caused a hiccup in the posteason season wrestling schedule. All but one regional dual across the state are postponed until tomorrow evening.
The Class 2A regional dual event at Winterset, featuring  Centerville, Harlan, Creston/orient-Macksburg and Clarke (Osceola) is the only one that will be competed. All others are scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.

East Buchanan is attempting to claim its first state duals berth, but if the Bucs are going to end their season in Cedar Rapids they will have to earn it.
The third-ranked Bucs host a competitive Class 1A regional dual at Winthrop, featuring No. 9 Lisbon, Alburnett and West Branch. East Buchanan opens with West Branch, while Lisbon takes on Alburnett in the semifinals, starting at 6 p.m.
Opening round winners then compete for a trip to the state duals Feb. 27 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

MARION — Not this time.
“We focused on not letting go,” Kasey Semler said after his Marion Indians grabbed sole possession of first place in the West Division of the Wamac Conference with a 69-53 win Tuesday night over Williamsburg. “That was the big thing.”
They didn’t let go. Marion (10-3, 8-1) led start to finish, building a substantial second-half lead and, well, finishing.

Quality wins? Williamsburg has them.
After starting 0-3, the Raiders have won eight of nine games — including eye-opening victories over Washington (Iowa), Marion and Iowa City Regina — to turn their season around.
“We lost our first three and we didn’t perform as well as we would have liked,” said Coach Aaron Feddersen. “We took a good, hard look … where was the season going to go?”

The top six teams in the rankings have a number of wrestlers on the list. All of them have at least five wrestlers ranked. Defending state champion Ballard still leads the way with Denver-Tripoli and Davenport Assumption close behind. The state tournament could be very interesting depending upon the number of qualifiers each can take to Des Moines.

Benton Community’s Bobcat “Jerry Eckenrod” Invitational boasts one of the strongest fields from all three classes and this Saturday is no different at Van Horne.
The 16-team field includes five ranked tournament teams and almost 40 ranked wrestlers. The field boasts top-ranked Don Bosco, No 4 Belle Plaine and seventh-rated Eddyville-Blakesburg from Class 1A and third-ranked Davenport Assumption and No. 7 Centerville of 2A.
