Brett Waughop ran the ball 12 times for 150 yards and three touchdowns and intercepted a pass on defense to lead the Raiders (1-0) on the road. Williamsburg quarterback Kelly O’Rourke went 6-of-14 through the air for 117 yards and three touchdowns. He also carried the ball five times for 44 yards and a score.

WILLIAMSBURG — The Washington softball team scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to win the first game of a non-conference doubleheader at Williamsburg 8-4 on Tuesday night, but the Demons couldn’t answer after the Raiders scored three runs in the sixth inning of the second game to win 7-4.

Prep golfers hit the course for Iowa High School Athletic Association championship meets today as 35 sectional meets in all three classes across the state.
Decorah senior Andrew Peter will look to defend his individual state title, and help lead the Vikings back to the Class 3A state meet. The Vikings, who placed fourth at state last season, travel to Charles City for a sectional with Clear Lake, Crestwood, Forest City, Hampton-Dumont, Iowa Falls-Alden and New Hampton. Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s Christian French and Williamsburg’s Austin Blythe have been nominated to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
The game is Jan. 8, 2011, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The annual classic East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at noon (Iowa time) and will feature the nation’s top high school football players.
Blythe has committed to play at the University of Iowa. French has offers with a number of Division-I programs.

Austin Blythe’s dance with the University of Iowa began about a year ago, when he received an offer to play football for the Hawkeyes.
Yes, Blythe, 6-foot-3, 280 pounds, grew up in Williamsburg, about a half hour west of Iowa City. His parents, Curt and Mary, took him to Hawkeye football games and wrestling meets pretty much all of his life.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has released the Class 3A district and regional golf assignments for the 2010 season. Marion heads to Stone Creek Golf Course for a district hosted by Williamsburg and could join the regional qualifiers from the Manchester district at Springbrook Country Club in DeWitt.

The Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association have released their final set of Class 1A and 2A dual rankings. The rankings are used to seed the state duals tournament. Teams across the state are competing in regional dual meets Wednesday to earn a berth to the State Duals tournament Feb. 27 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
