The Iowa High School Athletic Association recognizes the school at Epworth, Western Dubuque.
“E” comes before “N,” so “Epworth, Western Dubuque” comes before “Norwalk.”
And as a result, Western Dubuque probably will be classified as a large school in most interscholastic sports next school year.
With 564 students in grades 9-11 (according to the state’s BEDS Documents), Western Dubuque is the 48th largest school in the state. The top 48 compete in Class 4A in boys’ and girls’ basketball, baseball, softball, track and volleyball.

The Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association released its opening set of adjusted rankings on April 21. Reports appear to be spotty, meaning not all programs are represented. It does give you an idea of what some golfers are shooting from around the state. Since no course is the same, including differences in par and difficulty, the is an adjustment formula to calculate the rankings.
Western Dubuque’s Ali Daly is No. 1 in the Class 4A individual rankings and has the best adjusted score in all classes at 38.33. The Bobcats …

DES MOINES — Austin Marshall had his prayer answered and left Western Dubuque with none.
The Mount Pleasant forward beat the buzzer with a hurried 3-pointer from well past the top of the key that gave his team a bigger halftime cushion and the necessary juice to go on to a 60-50 Class 3A state tournament quarterfinal win Tuesday afternoon at Wells Fargo Arena.
It wasn’t exactly planned, but it worked.
“It was a big shot,” agreed Marshall. “I didn’t think it was going in. It was the best feeling ever. It got …

DES MOINES — Cedar Rapids Prairie’s Josh Lambrecht and Cedar Rapids Jefferson’s Conner Herman have traveled similar paths, and that’s just not the road from Southwest Cedar Rapids to downtown Des Moines.
Herman and Lambrecht suffered disappointing district losses last year that postponed their state tournament debuts. Both used them as motivation and find themselves at the same destination.
Lambrecht and Herman each earned quarterfinal wins last night in the Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 3A state wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.
