The top six teams in the rankings have a number of wrestlers on the list. All of them have at least five wrestlers ranked. Defending state champion Ballard still leads the way with Denver-Tripoli and Davenport Assumption close behind. The state tournament could be very interesting depending upon the number of qualifiers each can take to Des Moines.

WILLIAMSBURG — It was a contrast of styles in high school football last night.
Clear Creek Amana came in with a vaunted passing offense. Williamsburg fielded an offense based on strong line play and a running attack.
The Raiders’ style prevailed, running all over Clear Creek Amana and stifling the Clippers offense in a 48-7 victory at Bob Murphy Stadium.
The Raiders won their first district title since 2006.
“We wanted to get up on them early, shut the door and put them away and win this District 5,” Raiders junior lineman Austin Blythe …

Blaze Smith didn’t exactly learn about his record performance in record time.
He heard about it four days after the fact. From a reporter.
Smith, the quarterback at Clear Creek Amana, established an all-time Iowa best with 43 completions in the Clippers’ 40-28 victory over Vinton-Shellsburg last Friday.
“Really?” Smith said. “That’s kind of cool. I try to stay away from the stats and keep a level head.”
Even for a level head, these are mind-bending numbers: 43 completions in 54 attempts for 430 yards and three touchdowns, plus 121 yards rushing and three …

“I’m a team-first guy,” said White, head softball coach at Clear Creek Amana. “I’m just kind of concerned about kids being too concerned about their batting averages.”
Here, in a nutshell, is what viewers will find: The Clippers can hit. A lot.
