Prep golfers hit the course for Iowa High School Athletic Association championship meets today as 35 sectional meets in all three classes across the state.
Decorah senior Andrew Peter will look to defend his individual state title, and help lead the Vikings back to the Class 3A state meet. The Vikings, who placed fourth at state last season, travel to Charles City for a sectional with Clear Lake, Crestwood, Forest City, Hampton-Dumont, Iowa Falls-Alden and New Hampton. Mother nature has caused a hiccup in the posteason season wrestling schedule. All but one regional dual across the state are postponed until tomorrow evening.
The Class 2A regional dual event at Winterset, featuring  Centerville, Harlan, Creston/orient-Macksburg and Clarke (Osceola) is the only one that will be competed. All others are scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The top six teams in the rankings have a number of wrestlers on the list. All of them have at least five wrestlers ranked. Defending state champion Ballard still leads the way with Denver-Tripoli and Davenport Assumption close behind. The state tournament could be very interesting depending upon the number of qualifiers each can take to Des Moines.

MONONA — This season’s poster says it all: “Joining Forces.”
The MFL MarMac and Elkader Central wrestling teams consolidated programs and it seems to be a good merger.
The Bulldogs take a 2-0 dual record into tonight’s triangular with West Delaware and Solon at Manchester.
MFL MarMac has been successful the last decade, winning five straight Upper Iowa Conference titles and six of the last seven. Central has had problems with low numbers, but produced strong individuals.

A thumbnail sketch on the Class 1A girls’ race at the state cross country meet Saturday at Lakeside Golf Course, Fort Dodge.
Time: 2 p.m.
Individual race: It looks like a duel between Audrey Griffin of Clinton Prince of Peace and Katy Moen of Wapsie Valley, who finished 2-3 in the 1A race last year. Both shone brightly in the regional meets, with Griffin winning at Wapello by 20 seconds and Moen claiming a 48-second win over Grace Moore of Mason City Newman, who finished sixth last year.
