Cedar Rapids Kennedy ended an 11-game losing streak to Cedar Rapids Washington this season, sweeping the Warriors in regular-season play.
But to accurately say they’re cured of the Warriors’ hex, the Cougars must win one more time.
Fifth-ranked Kennedy (19-2) faces No. 9 Cedar Rapids Washington (15-8) in a Class 4A regional final girls’ basketball showdown Tuesday.
Tipoff is 7 p.m. at Cedar Rapids Prairie.
“I hope we can jump out, get a lead early and play loose,” said Kennedy Coach Dennis Roloff.
The Kennedy-Washington matchup is one of four involving area 4A teams.

CEDAR RAPIDS — Scot Moenck chose Waukon and MFL MarMac as a Rivalry Saturday matchup simply because … well, because both teams are darn good.
He may have stumbled onto a historical moment.
Waukon Coach Gene Klinge goes after his 939th career victory in the 4:30 game at the U.S. Cellular Center.
That would give him sole possession of the all-time record among Iowa girls’ basketball coaches. Currently, he shares the mark with the late Bob Mullen.
“I didn’t expect Coach Klinge to have a chance to break it on our night,” said Moenck, …

For nine days in limbo, Makenzie Ginn didn’t know where she would be playing her senior season of basketball.
Or if she would be playing at all.
Nine girls signed up at Olin. Six showed up on the first day of practice, and the number dwindled from there.
It was apparent that if Ginn was going to play, it wouldn’t be at her own school, which scrambled for a sharing agreement with three adjacent districts — Anamosa, Midland and North Cedar.
Ginn got her first choice. Anamosa.
“I knew the coaches, and I had played …

They solved a serious scheduling issue. And in the process, they created two days of dandy girls’ basketball matchups.
Four unbeatens — two from the Metro, two from Sioux City — will collide tonight and Saturday.
“The kids are excited to play,” Mike Brandt, coach at Class 4A third-rated Linn-Mar. “We want to play the best around. These are two great teams. It should be a great opportunity for us.”

James Morris had the perfect remedy for adversity.
Perfect, as in 8-for-8 passing.
Filling in at quarterback after Wes Sleeper was injured Wednesday, Morris didn’t miss a pass, and Solon didn’t miss a beat. The Class 2A top-rated Spartans plastered Camanche, 61-8, Friday.
“James was outstanding, and I was very pleased with our level of play,” said Solon Coach Kevin Miller. “We came out in a manner in which I was most proud.”
Sleeper tore an ACL in a non-contact drill Wednesday. Miller is holding out hope that he can return later this season.
“It …
