The U.S. Army Blues Quintet, a guest of the jazz area in the University of Iowa School of Music, will present two free public events on Tuesday, Sept. 14:
--A Jazz clinic at 1:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall of the Trinity Episcopal Church.
--A concert at 7:30 p.m. in the University Capitol Centre Recital Hall.

The quintet is an element of the U.S. Army Band 'Pershing's Own' from Ft. Myer, Va. The U.S. Army Blues celebrated its 35th Anniversary in 2007. After beginning informally in 1970, the Army Blues became an official part of the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” in 1972.

The indoor classical concert season starts with a program containing three pieces inspired by youth.

Ravel’s Mother Goose is the French impressionist’s portrait of five classic fairy tales: Sleeping Beauty; Beauty and the Beast; Tom Thumb; Little Ugly Girl, Empress of the Pagodas; and The Fairy Garden.

The American composer Samuel Barber depicts an idyllic evening as narrated by a child in his Knoxville: Summer of 1915.

Orchestra Iowa marks the beginning of a year-long tribute to Gustav Mahler with his Symphony No. 4, which uses the song “Das himmlische Leben” describing a child’s vision of heaven.

Mary Wilson, who moved audiences with her performance in the Mozart Requiem, returns as soloist in the Barber and Mahler.

PW Gopal will be at the River Community Church Friday evening and Saturday, to educate anyone interested in learning more about Human Trafficking. Please RSVP if you are interested in attending so he can bring enough materials. You do not need to be able to attend everything, come when you can!

Friday evening we will start at 7pm. PW will do an overview on trafficking, sing for a bit, and then lead us in a time of prayer for... victims, advocates, legislators, etc.

Saturday morning we will meet from 10-noon, break for lunch (lunch is not provided), and then continue to discuss until we are finished.

You need to RSVP for the seminar.
