IOWA CITY — Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Iowa City West are uniting Friday night in an effort to beat cancer.
The two schools are participating in a joint “Gold Out,” with students from both schools wearing gold at their football game at Trojan Field. Shirts will be sold at both schools.
At 4:30 p.m. the game ball will be run from the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital – pediatric oncology to West High School. The goal is to have both West and Kennedy staff bringing the football from the hospital together.
The ball is scheduled to arrive at 5:15. A lasagna dinner will be served in the West carfeteria from 5 to 7 p.m.
Honorary captains for West are the Codd family, whose son Dashiell died this summer due to cancer. The hope is to confirm the Wall family to be honorary captains for Kennedy. Their son Drew died last November from cancer.
Two footballs will be raffled off, one signed by Nate Kaeding, and the other Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz.
All proceeds go to West High School Dance Marathon for the UI dance marathon to support childhood cancer patients and their families.
