Minor rule changes to prep wrestling

The National Federation of State High School Associations released rule changes for the 2013-14 prep wrestling season Thursday.

The adjustments are relatively minor. The biggest appears to be the fact that forfeits will not factor in to the total number of matches during a calendar date. The limit is five matches per day, but previously a forfeit received would count against that total. Now, only competed matches are applied to the five-match limit.

The NFHS also shared wrestling is the sixth-most popular prep sport for boys with 272,149 participants at 10,407 programs for the 2011-12 season. It also noted 8,235 girls wrestle in high school.
