Kelley resigns at Iowa City West

IOWA CITY — With the first day of practice less than three weeks away, Iowa City West is looking for a new softball coach.

West Athletics Director Scott Kibby confirmed Wednesday that Jeff Kelley has resigned his post.

“Jeff resigned as of Tuesday, due to personal reasons,” Kibby said. “We met with the kids today, and we posted the job today.

“We’ll look at applications and make some phone calls.”

Kelley led the Women of Troy to their first state-tournament appearance last year. West went 37-8 last year and finished fourth in Class 5A.

Six starters return for the upcoming season.

Kelley spent five years at West, posting a 155-56 record.

Practice begins May 6.
