CEDAR RAPIDS — Do you know a high-school coach or assistant coach in Linn, Johnson or Jones counties who has had a significant impact mentoring the kids they coach?

If so, you have an opportunity to honor their work by nominating them for the Children of Promise Coach of the Year award.

Research is clear youths need to be in relationships with multiple pro-social adults to learn critical life skills that help them succeed life. We feel our mentors are “coaches” for kids, so we developed this award to recognize the important role coaches play in providing much-needed positive mentoring to youth, particularly youth facing challenging circumstances.

The award will be presented by Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz at the Coaches for Kids banquet April 2 at the Iowa City downtown Sheraton.

The final three nominees will be honored and receive two tickets to the banquet. The winner will be announced that night and will receive a plaque and a $500 award for their school or booster club in their name.

The funds raised from the Coaches for Kids event will be used to support the Children of Promise mentoring programs that serve 375 youths facing multiple life challenges, including those with parents involved in the correctional system.

By providing caring adult mentors and opportunities for participation and belonging, Children of Promise helps young people in Linn, Johnson and Jones counties succeed in school, work and life and become contributing members of our community.

Go to www.iowachildrenofpromise.org to get the nomination form. Nominations are due March 2
