IOWA CITY – The City High wrestling team travels to Mount Pleasant on Saturday for its district tournament.
This tournament decides who will make it to the state wrestling tournament. There will be a total of 17 ranked wrestlers in the 14 weight classes and eight teams in the field – Mount Pleasant, City High, Iowa City West, Burlington, Keokuk, Ottumwa, Oskaloosa and Fort Madison.
“There are definitely some tough kids in our district, but I think that if I put in enough hard work and just try my best I will not be disappointed,” said senior Alex Lemus, a returning state qualifier who has to wrestle the third- and fifth-ranked wrestlers in the state at 113 ponds
Only the top two placewinners will advance to the state tournament with the third-place finisher designated an alternate.
