DELHI – The Maquoketa Valley  wrestlers are closing in on an important time of year – conference and the road to state.

And things are looking good.

The Wildcats defeated 10th-ranked North-Linn, 58-18, last Thursday night at Cascade and also beat the host Cougars, 60- 18.

“In my mind this was our best performance of the season thus far,” Coach Tim Andrews said. “The guys know that we cannot be content with this as we need to continue cranking up the intensity each day more and more until the season is over.”

In the win over North-Linn, Jared Coyle won by forfeit, Dylan Wright won by major decision, Carter Funke won by forfeit, Trevor Koopmann won by pin, Steve Huber won by pin in 34 seconds, Luke Kramer won by decision, Skylar Lewis won by forfeit, Ryan Parmely won by pin in 33 seconds, Tyler Yonkovic won by pin, Greg Guetzko won by forfeit and Jeremy Fischer won by decision.

Maquoketa Valley easily defeated conference rival Cascade, which improved the team’s record to 24-7.

Coach Andrews said “overall I was very happy with how we performed especially as we head into a open weekend and prepare for conference and the post season. Hopefully we can stay healthy and keep improving daily so we can attain as many goals as possible individually and as a team.”

MV’ winners in the Cascade dual were Guetzko by decision, Coyle by tech fall, Fischer by forfeit, Wright by pin in 38 seconds, Funke by forfeit, Koopmann by major decision and Jeremy Bacon, Kramer, Lewis,  Parmely and Yonkovic all by forfeit.
