Waverly-Shell Rock’s Anna Holdiman was announced Friday as the winner of the 2012-13 Gatorade Iowa Cross Country Runner of the Year. She becomes the first winner of the Gatorade award in the school’s history.

Holdiman won the Class 3A individual title with a time of 13:51 on a four-kilometer course, finishing almost 40 full seconds ahead of the second-place runner. She was selected as a second-team All-American after finishing seventh at the National Championships.

“Anna has always been focused and determined in her goals with running,” said head coach Kevin Kueker, in the Gatorade release. “She has always been a student of the sport, wanting to learn what she can do to be better. Everything culminated with her having an incredible senior year.”

Holdiman is verbally committed to Iowa State.
