Martin expected back in January

Morgan Martin

CEDAR RAPIDS — It could have been worse.

Morgan Martin will miss time due to a knee injury. She apparently won’t miss the entire season.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy girls basketball coach Tony Vis said Tuesday morning that an MRI has indicated an injury to Martin’s medial patellofemoral ligament on her left knee, and that the ACL and MCL were intact.

“We are disappointed she is out for a while, but ecstatic that we are getting her back,” said Vis, who expects Martin to return in January.

A 6-foot-2 junior post, Martin was an all-stater at Quincy (Ill.) Notre Dame before moving to Cedar Rapids last summer.

She posted 16 points and 11 rebounds in about 4 1/2 quarters of action before going down on a baseline drive Friday against Dubuque Wahlert.

Kennedy is 3-0 and ranked ninth in Class 5A. The Cougars play at Linn-Mar tonight, then have four more games before the holiday break.
