Third-ranked Tripoli swept past unranked Lisbon Wednesday night, 25-20, 25-11, 25-19, at Manchester to once again take up residence in Cedar Rapids for a few days in November.
Tripoli (35-5) has won 10 of the last 13 Class 1A state volleyball championships and will set its sights on another when it opens play next Thursday at 6 p.m. against Le Mars Gehlen (21-10) in the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
Lisbon, which reached the regional finals for the second time in three seasons, bowed out of the 2012 campaign with a 24-12 record.
In Class 2A action at Arlington, 12th-ranked Sumner-Fredericksburg knocked off unranked Edgewood-Colesburg, 25-15, 28-30, 25-19, 25-18, to advance.
Sumner-Fredericksburg (24-6) will open play in Cedar Rapids against top-ranked Dike-New Hartford (42-0) at 3 p.m. next Thursday. This is a first trip to the state tournament for Sumner-Fredericksburg, although Sumner alone qualified three times in the 1990s.
