DECORAH – After falling behind for the first time this season, top-ranked Decorah scored 35 unanswered points and downed Solon, 35-10, in a Class 3A prep football second-round game last night in Decorah.

Josey Jewell rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown for the Vikings (11-0), Holt Johansen added two TDs and 83 rushing yards and Jake Kvale completed 8 of 9 passes for 82 yards and two scores.

“We had some opportunities and didn’t take advantage of them and you can’t do that against a quality team like Decorah,” Solon Coach Kevin Miller said. “Decorah is stout in every phase of the game.”

The Vikings will play DeWitt Central on Friday.

“It takes a while to adjust to what a new opponent is doing and give them credit for executing well,” Decorah Coach Bill Post said. “But our guys stuck with it and once we got the momentum we kept it and I’m proud of them for beating a quality team.”

Rory Siddell had 102 rushing yards for Solon (8-3) and passed for 91. Jordan Wymer scored a touchdown and Josh Proehl kicked a field goal.
