CEDAR RAPIDS — While Dubuque Senior (7-2) dominated play on the field in a 42-0 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson, J-Hawk football fans had reason to celebrate at Kingston Stadium last night.

Nineteen members of the 1972 J-Hawks state championship team were honored at halftime as Jefferson celebrated the team’s 40th anniversary. The ’72 J-Hawks went 11-0 on their way to winning the first state championship in Iowa High School history.

The Rams improved their record to 7-2 as senior running back Alex Duster controlled the tempo. He pounded the ball, carrying several J-Hawk defenders on his way to 5-yard TD run to put Senior on the board first. Duster carried the ball 22 times for 178 yards and a touchdown.

The Rams only needed four plays on their next possession to score. Junior quarterback Austin Clemens threw a 7-yard TD pass to Cole Wilbricht to put Senior on top, 14-0.

Clemens then ran it in from 1-yard out to give the Rams a 21-0 lead that they carried into halftime.

Clemens hooked up with receiver Keegan Gallery for a pair of TDs in the second half.
