The Wildcats are now 6-1.
Maquoketa Valley notched its sixth win, 28-10, over Bellevue last Friday night and continue to improve.
Although the first half was slow, letting Bellevue score, the ‘Cats picked up their game in the second half. Without scoring and letting the other team into the end zone, the Wildcats were motivated to win after the break.
After losing to Bellevue last year, the Wildcats also wanted to redeem themselves and win.
Leading tacklers were Carter Funke and Ryan Parmely with 12, and Tanner Hargrafen with seven. Maquoketa Valley fought hard and deserved the victory.
The scorers included Funke, with a rushing touchdown, and Parmely, with three rushing touchdowns.
“Ryan probably ran his best this year,” Coach Wes Wilson said.
He even had two interceptions during the game. Jeremy Bacon also had an interception and Jobe Ellison had a fumble recovery.
Quarterback Ben Dzaboff threw for 86 yards.
“It was a big deal to beat Bellevue,” Wilson said. “We couldn’t do anything about last year … we just needed to come out and play well this year.”
Maquoketa Valley plays at Tipton tonight.
