By Ally Ziegenfuss, Maquoketa Valley senior
A great game was played last Friday by the Maquoketa Valley Wildcats, beating Durant on the road, 38-6.
The Wildcats scored big in the first quarter.
Steve Huber had a 3-yard run and Carter Funke made the extra point. Ben Dzaboff ran 2 yards and Funke added another kick. The next score was by Funke, with another PAT kick. That put Maquoketa Valley up 31-6 in the first half.
During the second quarter, Dzaboff added one more touchdown and Funke kicked another PAT and a 43-yard field goal.
Dzaboff scored again in the fourth quarter.
Tanner Hargrafen and Ryan Parmely led the team with 11 tackles each and Steve Huber had eight.
“We were much better defensively this week tackling, except for one play,” Coach Wes Wilson said after the game.
The offense was very balanced as well.
“Ben threw the ball very well and we had three rushes over 40 yards,” Wilson said.
The Wildcats will be tough to defend if they continue to play like they did last Friday. Maquoketa Valley hosts Bellevue tonight.
