IOWA CITY – The third-ranked City High Little Hawks volleyball team will face the West High Trojans tonight in The Battle of the Spike.
The Little Hawks are looking for redemption from last year when they lost to West High three times, including the state championship game.
“We want to redeem ourselves from last year and show the state why were one of the top ranked teams,” senior co-captain Mickey Hansche said. “We want to bring the Spike back home.”
While inner-city rivalries always bring an added intensity, the Little Hawks are preparing for the game the same way they always do.
“If we can dictate the tempo and play our game, we will be OK,” assistant coach Tricia Carty said.
The sophomore game starts at 5:30 p.m. in the main gym at West High. The varsity game will start around 7:15.
