IOWA CITY - “The trough is no more!” proclaimed Kevin Koepnick before the “ceremonial first flush” in the men’s restroom at the renovated City High press box at Bates Field earlier this season.
Before the construction began in the spring of 2010, City Highs restroom facilities were considered among the worst in the state. The renovation began in 2009 with the construction on the new bleacher design and completed by the 2010-2011 school year.
“The City High community is a large, excited and involved place,” vice principal Terry Coleman said.
The “Stand Up For City High” campaign has raised more than $712,000 with 419 donors.
“It has not been easy, but we’re almost there,” Coleman said.
A skybox is the highlight of the renovation and will be auctioned off every Friday morning for home football games. The price will start at $100 and increase with $25 increments.
“I am totally excited about all of the great facility improvements at City,” athletic director D’Anne Kramer said.
