CEDAR RAPIDS — Joe Yegge is a junior-college softball coach. And, now, a high school softball coach.

College Community Schools has announced that Yegge has been hired as the Cedar Rapids Prairie varsity head coach. He will continue as the Kirkwood Community College coach, where he has been since 2008.

Kirkwood was 43-13 in 2012.

A native of State Center, Yegge was the head coach at NIACC from 1998 through 2002, then spent five seasons as an assistant at Indiana State University before moving on to Kirkwood.

He succeeds Kimi Kynek at Prairie.
