Stovie sidelined with ACL tear

CEDAR RAPIDS — The Xavier Saints will play the rest of the football season without their leading rusher.

Cal Stovie, the fourth-leading rusher in Class 4A, is sidelined with a torn ACL. Stovie rushed for 488 yards on 48 carries (10.2 yards per carry) through three games, scoring four touchdowns.

Xavier Coach Duane Schulte confirmed the injury Monday.

The senior was injured at the end of a 55-yard run during the third quarter of the Saints’ 48-14 win at Cedar Rapids Prairie on Friday.

Xavier is 3-0 and hosts Dubuque Wahlert on Friday.

Logan Jones is the Saints’ second-leading rusher at 87 yards.
