DUBUQUE - The streak is over.
Nick O’Connell and Layne Sullivan scored touchdowns as Cedar Rapids Jefferson toppled Dubuque Hempstead, 12-7, last night in a Mississippi Valley Conference prep football game at the University of Dubuque, snapping a 24-game losing streak.
The win was the J-Hawks’ first since a 20-13 victory over Dubuque Senior in 2009.
O’Connell scored on a 5-yard run in the second quarter and finished with 73 yards. Sullivan scored the winning TD on a 2-yard run in the third.
Michael Moncivais led the J-Hawks (1-2) with 151 yards on 16 carries.
Dubuque Senior fell to 0-3.
