IOWA CITY – The Iowa City High football team is facing the Trojans of Waterloo East tonight.
Waterloo East, after going 5-5 last year, is expected to be much better this year. The Trojans are loaded with athletes at several positions. Quarterback, Desmond Van Arsdale is a Division I level athlete and is being looked at by Iowa and Iowa State. His combination of speed and throwing ability makes a tough challenge for The Little Hawk defense.
“We need to work on containing the quarterback and keeping him inside and in front of us,” senior Daren Jones said. “He is so fast that we can’t let him get outside of us or he will run all over the place.”
The Little Hawks are 1-1 after beating Waterloo West, 49-19, last Friday.
The Little Hawk are healthy this week, too. Senior Amos Lavela will be back on the field after sitting out last game with concussion-like symptoms. Quarterback Tyler Stika, also a senior, is the only question, after rolling his right ankle in practice Wednesday. He will be a game time decision.
