Mid-Prairie 6th in 3A
Mid-Prairie stranded 11 runners, leaving the bases full in the fourth and fifth innings, and dropped a 3-0 decision to East Marshall in the Class 3A fifth-place game at the state softball tournament Wednesday at the Rogers Sports Complex.
The Golden Hawks (31-13) rolled by Davenport Assumption, 9-0, in the consolation semifinal.
Emmie Leinen, Mallory McArtor and Mariah Swartzentruber collected two hits apiece as Mid-Prairie tallied 11 hits. McArtor also led Mid-Prairie with three RBIs.
West Delaware 7th in 4A
Haley Morrison drew a four-pitch walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to give West Delaware a 5-4 win over Sioux City Heelan in the Class 4A seventh-place game.
The Hawks (31-12) rallied from a 4-0 deficit. Reeann McCarty’s two-run single capped a four-run third inning to tie it.
In the consolation semifinal, Savannah Marker blooped a two-out single to right field with two outs in the seventh inning as Winterset edged the Hawks, 3-2.
Waukon 8th in 3A
The Indians were three outs away from victory in the consolation semifinal, but East Marshall scored 12 runs in the top of the seventh inning to win, 15-5.
Callie Roseland smoked a grand slam, and 16 East Marshall players batted in the seventh.
Waukon couldn’t recover in the seventh-place game and fell 10-0 in five innings to Davenport Assumption. Hannah Fahey had the lone hit for Waukon (14-20).
