Girls’ state basketball: Monday’s games

Monday’s games at the girls’ state basketball tournament at Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines:


North Tama (21-4) vs. North Mahaska (25-0)

Time — 5 p.m.

Coaches — Irv Laube is 51-21 in three years as the girls coach at North Tama. He also coached boys for nine years, posting a 97-91 mark. L.E. Moore is in his fourth year at North Mahaska, at which he has an 82-16 record. He’s 161-93 in 11 years overall.

Key players — Kailey Kladivo (6-2, sr.) leads North Tama at 17.8 points and 13.9 rebounds per game. Allison Zobel (5-8, jr.) adds 12.8 ppg.┬áMallory Boyle (5-11, jr.) paces North Mahaska at 13.8 points per game, Tara Smith (5-7, sr.) adds 12.2.

Tournament history — North Tama is making its first tournament appearance. North Mahaska has qualified for the second time; the other appearance was last year.


Class 1A quarterfinal — Ar-We-Va (21-3) vs. Bedford (24-1), 10 a.m.

Class 1A quarterfinal — LeMars Gehlen (20-4) vs. North Butler (21-1), 11:45 a.m.

Class 1A quarterfinal — West Sioux (24-1) vs. Lynnville-Sully (23-2), 1:30 p.m.

Class 2A quarterfinal — Estherville-Lincoln Central (24-2) vs. Western Christian (22-3), 6:45 p.m.

Class 2A quarterfinal — West Marshall (20-5) vs. Ida Grove OA-BCIG (25-0), 8:30 p.m.
