DES MOINES — The West Delaware Hawks contended for a state team title powered by seven medalists at the Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 2A State wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.
Top-ranked 195-pounder Adam Reth reached the finals to lead the Hawks. Pat Woods (106) and heavyweight Dean Broghammer posted third-place finishes and Zach Mueller (132) and 182-pounder Jacyn Goebel were fourth. Zach Less (113), a finalist last year, and Jake Voss (152) were fifth for West Delaware.
Union Community had four earn top-six finishes, including brothers Max and Logan Thomsen, who reached the finals at 113 and 138, respectively. Heavyweight Josh Clark was fourth and Dylan McLaughlin was sixth for the Knights.
Solon found its way into the top 10 before the finals, advancing Cody Fritz (152) and 170-pounder J.J. Hanus into championship bouts. Jay Pike placed fifth and Lance Evans (182) was seventh, giving the Spartans four placewinners.
Mount Vernon duo of Trey Ryan and Tyler Rawson rebounded from opening losses to earn hardware. Ryan, a sophomore, placed sixth at 145, while Rawson capped his career with an eighth-place finish at 170.
Williamsburg’s J.C. Vercande has a shot at the 145-pound title, and the Raiders’ Corbin Blythe placed fourth at 220.
South Tama also had a pair of placewinners. Erik Lux reached the finals at 160. Teammate Tyler Walz finished eighth at 152.
Independence’s Nick Fuller assured himself of a top-two finish, reaching the 170-pound finals.
At 195, Clear Creek Amana’s Casey Rohret finished sixth in his first state tournament appearance. Kory Wiele placed one spot below him for West Liberty.
Anamosa’s Jason Bowers placed sixth at 132 and MFL-Central’s Jed Siegwarth was eighth at 145.
