Regina’s Westemeyer commits to Augustana

Iowa City Regina senior Ross Westemeyer has committed to play college football beginning in 2012 at NCAA Division II Augustana (S.D.), according to the family.

Westemeyer — 6-foot-2 and 216 pounds — was the fifth-leading tackler on Regina’s Class 2A state championship team as a linebacker. He also recorded a sack and rushed for one touchdown.

Westemeyer’s uncle, Brian, played offensive tackle for Augustana in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He is expected to play inside linebacker in college and will sign his letter of intent this week on signing day.
