A dozen area football games with playoff ramifications:
IOWA CITY WEST at CEDAR FALLS
Time and site: 7:45 p.m. Friday, at Cedar Falls (UNI-Dome)
Records and rankings: West is 6-2 overall, 5-0 MVC Valley Division; Class 4A No. 2 Cedar Falls is 8-0, 6-0.
Why this game really matters: The victor is the MVC Valley Division champion. Cedar Falls is the likely 4A East No. 1 seed with a win and a Cedar Rapids Xavier win over Linn-Mar.
LINN-MAR at CEDAR RAPIDS XAVIER
Time and site: 7:15 p.m. Friday, at Saints Field
Records and rankings: Class 4A No. 3 Linn-Mar is 8-0; Xavier is 5-3.
Why this game really matters: Linn-Mar likely will earn a No. 1 seed in the east side for the 4A playoffs with a win. It’s unlikely, but Xavier could still host a first-round game if some upsets happen in the MVC and the MAC.
CEDAR RAPIDS PRAIRIE at IOWA CITY HIGH
Time and site: 7:15 p.m. Friday, at Bates Field
Records and rankings: Prairie is 2-6; 4A No. 9 City High is 6-2.
Why this game really matters: With two wins in the last three weeks, Prairie can secure a 4A playoff spot if it pulls a big upset and if Clinton loses to Pleasant Valley.
DUBUQUE WAHLERT at CEDAR RAPIDS KENNEDY
Time and site: 7:15 p.m. Friday, at Kingston Stadium
Records and rankings: Wahlert is 5-3 overall, 3-2 MVC Mississippi Division; Kennedy is 4-4, 3-2.
Why this game really matters: Both teams are in the 4A playoffs and both teams will play first-round road games. Both are playing for seedings. A Kennedy win will give the Cougars a winning season and provide 5 extra playoff points for each team they’ve played this season.

IOWA CITY REGINA at WEST LIBERTY
Time and site: 7:30 p.m. Friday, at West Liberty
Records and rankings: Top-ranked Regina is 8-0 overall, 6-0 Class 2A District 5; West Liberty is 6-2, 5-1.
Why this game really matters: The district title still hasn’t been decided. Regina is the champion if it wins, or if Wilton defeats Camanche.
SOLON at GRINNELL
Time and site: 7:30 p.m. Friday, at Grinnell
TV: KCRG Channel 9.2
Records and rankings: Both teams are 7-1 overall, 6-0 Class 3A District 6. Solon is ranked sixth; Grinnell is No. 9.
Why this game really matters: Simple. The winner is the 3A-6 champion.
DE WITT CENTRAL at CENTER POINT-URBANA
Time and site: 7:30 p.m. Friday, at Center Point
Records and rankings: Central is 4-4 overall, 4-2 Class 3A District 5; CPU is 3-5, 3-3.
Why this game really matters: The fourth playoff spot in 3A-5 likely goes to the winner. If CPU wins, the Stormin’ Pointers might still be left out on points if Western Dubuque loses to Anamosa or if Union falls to Vinton-Shellsburg (both are unlikely).
SOUTH WINNESHIEK at DYERSVILLE BECKMAN
Time and site: 7:30 p.m. Friday, at Dyersville
Records and rankings: Seventh-ranked South Winn is 8-0 overall, 6-0 Class 2A District 4; No. 8 Beckman is 7-1, 5-1.
Why this game really matters: South Winn is the district champion with a victory, or a defeat by two points or less if North Fayette defeats Monticello. Beckman is crowned with a win of three points or more, or a victory of any margin if North Fayette loses.
MAQUOKETA VALLEY at BELLEVUE
Time and site: 7:30 p.m. Friday, at Bellevue
Records and rankings: Maquoketa Valley is 5-3 overall, 3-3 Class 1A District 5; Bellevue is 6-2, 4-2.
Why this game really matters: The winner is in the 1A playoffs; the loser is out.
WAPSIE VALLEY at STARMONT
Time and site: 7:30 p.m. Friday, at Arlington
Records and rankings: Both teams are 7-1 overall, 5-1 Class 1A District 5.
Why this game really matters: The winner is guaranteed a first-round home game, and earns the district title if Clayton Ridge upsets Turkey Valley.
LISBON at WACO
Time and site: 7 p.m. Friday, at Wayland
Records and rankings: Second-ranked Lisbon is 8-0 overall, 5-0 Class A District 5; No. 8 WACO is 7-1, 4-1.
Why this game really matters: The district crown remains undecided. Lisbon obviously wins it a victory. The Lions also reign with a loss of less than 13 points, provided Lone Tree beats Winfield-Mount Union. WACO is the champion with a win and an upset by W-MU.
MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT at TWIN CEDARS
Time and site: 7 p.m., at Bussey
Records and rankings: Meskwaki is 4-5 overall, 3-3 Eight Man District 5; Twin Cedars is 3-5, 3-3.
Why this game really matters: The winner is in the Eight-Man playoffs; the loser is out.
