IOWA CITY — It won’t be retired, but it won’t be worn again.

Caroline Found

Kathy Bresnahan said Wednesday that Caroline Found’s volleyball number (9) will never be reissued.

“I talked to (West Athletics Director) Marv (Reiland) about it, and we’re not going to have a formal retirement of it, but whenever we reorder new uniforms, we’re just not going to get No. 9,” said Bresnahan, the West coach.

Found was killed in a moped accident last Thursday in Iowa City. She was 17 and would have been a senior this season. She was the starting setter for West’s Class 4A state-championship team in 2010.

Bresnahan said that Found’s jersey will be placed on an empty seat on the West bench at each match this season, and that her shoes will be placed beneath that seat.

West’s first competition this season is next Thursday, in the MVC-MAC Challenge at Cedar Rapids Prairie.
