Prairie (25-15) will likely host Linn-Mar in a substate semifinal Monday night at 7. That matchup will be cemented if top-seeded Mason City beats sixth-seeded Waterloo East in a Saturday substate first-rounder. If East beats Mason City, Prairie would receive a substate semifinal bye.
LINN-MAR 4, CEDAR FALLS 3 — Austin Stroschein was 3-for-4 and hit a two out single in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the win for the Lions (22-17). Linn-Mar plays in a substate semifinal Monday night at 7 against an opponent to be determined.
CEDAR RAPIDS XAVIER 5, DUBUQUE SENIOR 1 — With two outs Xavier scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a one to one tie. Ean McNeal doubled in a run and Eric Zenisek singled in the last two runs for Xavier (26-10). The Saints host a Monday night substate semifinal against Dubuque Hempstead (20-18).
IOWA CITY WEST 7, C.R. WASHINGTON 5 — Jeremy Cronk gave up five runs in six innings but got the win, with Ryan Rumpf pitching the seventh inning for the save. Chicago White Sox draft pick Dakota Freese pitched for Washington for just the fourth time this season. He has been playing with a high-level traveling team in Chicago in an attempt to increase his professional visibility.
West (30-10) advances to a substate final Wednesday night against either Iowa City High or Burlington. The game will be at West.
