The Cedar Rapids Kennedy girls swim team will host its annual Cougar Invitational on Saturday. The 10-team field Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Cedar Rapids Prairie-Williamsburg, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Davenport North, Decorah, Dubuque Wahlert, Johnston and Linn-Mar.
Five of the state’s top 13 teams will be in attendance, including No. 6 Cedar Falls. Competition promises to be tight with Kennedy lead teams holding four consecutive spots in the rankings. The Cougars are 10th with Johnston, Linn-Mar and Decorah right behind.
The 200 medley relay could be one of the top events Saturday. Teams comprised half of the top eight state times. Decorah ranks third in 1:53.67, Cedar Falls is fourth 1:55.10, Kennedy is fifth at 1:55.30 and Linn-Mar is eighth at 1:56.32.
Decorah’s Hannah Maher and Linn-Mar’s Emilie Berg own two of the top times this season in the 100 breaststroke. Maher holds the state’s best time of 1:06.65 and Berg sits in third at 1:08.36. The competition will feature some of the state’s better divers. Johnston’s Dani Davis and Dahlia Gordon, Linn-Mar’s Sam Wagner and Kennedy’s Liz Hayes highlight the field.
The diving competition begins at 9 a.m. with swimming finals starting at 1 p.m.
