According to the performance list published by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, Linn-Mar’s Emilie Berg and Cedar Rapids Washington diver Sara Larson are the top Metro athletes in the statewide rankings.
Berg, a junior, and Larson, a senior, are both ranked fourth in their respective events. Berg sits among the state leaders in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.64 recorded Tuesday in a dual against Iowa City West. Larson earned a score of 233.80 for six 1-meter dives on Sept. 2 positioning her with the best divers.
Berg’s Lions also have the top ranking Metro teams and the Metro’s highest ranking relay. Linn-Mar is ninth in the team rankings with 1,213 points, trailing Johnston by only two. Cedar Rapids Kennedy is 10th with 1,154. The Lions’ 200 medley relay, posting a time of 1:56.36 on Aug. 31.
Iowa City West is the highest ranked team, sitting in fifth places with 1,331. Ames is top-ranked at 1,539. The Women of Troy is led by freshmen Lilian Zhu and Savannah Butler. Zhu owns the fifth-fastest times in the 200 individual medley (2:16.52) and 100 backstroke (1:01.95), while Butler is fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.88). West is also ranked fifth in the 400 free relay (3:49.65).
Decorah is seventh in the team rankings, despite holding a top 10 time in all 11 swim events. Hannah Maher has state best times in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.65) and 200 IM (2:11.33). Vikings teammate Allison Orvis is second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.36.
