  1. The football gods dont like teams that run up scores and show poor sportsmanship. I realized tonight just how good Solon is at sportsmanship while watching Williamsburg show such poor choices. Having a 48-0 lead and coming out with your starters is bad enough but when the other team forces a 4th down when you are in FG range, going for the first down and running up the score shows the character of the coaching staff. Once is bad enough, but doing it two more times when leading 55-0 is uncalled for. Beware Williamsburg, this will come back to bite you in a bad way.

  2. grab a big box of kleenex you are gonna need em all year if your team is going to play with that kind of effort and intensity guess the raiders should have not played so hard in your toybox

  3. I agree with “Boo Hoo”. You can’t expect a team to just lay off while playing a not so good team. Those young men have practiced hard during the off season and it showed. The players and coaching staff can’t help it if the other team doesn’t show up. It is up to the other team compete with them. If they can’t, then suck it up and try again the next week. You don’t get better by telling the other team oh we aren’t that good so take it easy on us. The starters played one series in the 2nd half and the 2nd and 3rd string the remainder of the game. “You Know”, your team will get better , but not by bashing the opponents coaches and players. You should learn from this and try to improve. That is the beauty of this game.

  4. I agree with Boo hoo and Play Hard, I was not at the game but have family that was there. The W’burg boys practice hard go to team meetings visit each other for encouragement, and are a small town fight hard and get it done team. It is the first week and the starters of every team should be allowed to try their practice routines in real game time! I’m sure KCRG would have reported if fights or poor sportsmanship was there. Thankyou KCRG for the internet video so I can see my friends & family play while I am away. GO BIG RED!!!

  5. If you weren’t at the game, you don’t know all the details that led up to it. If I was the coach, I would have pulled the starters with the game in hand, to not see any key players get hurt, to give some backups game experience and to respect the other team. The Williamsburg players did absolutely nothing wrong. They are supposed to play hard. The coaches should have shown some restraint. And it isn’t about crying because the CPU teams got beat so bad, it is about sportsmanship. The CPU players showed up, so that comment is out of line. They were just outmatched in this one. Any comment that insults the kids is just plain insensitive. I know those kids played their hearts out with 2 key players recently kicked off the team for some off the field nonsense. It is unfortunate that the Williamsburg coaches decided to keep playing the starters and run up the score. Show some class.

  6. Oh cry me a river CPU. Yes your team was over matched, but if you knew anything about footbal you wouldn’t post the b.s. that you did. You ALWAYS play your hardest and never stop until the end of the game. This is the first game so the coaches are trying to work on what they practiced all summer. This is when all the kinks get worked out so your team will grow and become better. Sorry that your situation wasn’t more pleasent, but it is what it is. You LOST. Quit B I T C H I N G.

  7. That’s the thing…you’re not the coach. Coach Ritchie is a top class guy, ask anybody. Williamsburg ran away with most teams last year and did the same thing, the starters played the first half and one series of the second, didn’t really have any sportsmanship issues. You guys should ask the CPU players and coaches if THEY wanted to play the 1s. I’d think it’d be an even worse slap in the face to put in the second team.

And if you asked the CPU team, I’m sure they would say they didn’t show up. These Seniors beat Williamsburg’s Seniors in Freshman and Sophomore games, comes down to hard work and not having “off the field nonsense”. It matters to these guys to work hard and stay out of trouble. So let these guys play, they shouldn’t have to sit out because the other team can’t hang.

  8. I completely agree with ‘Figure it out’, let these players reap the benefits of their hardwork throughout the summer and dominate their opponents every snap

  9. I don’t think running up the score is an issue. The ultimate goal is winning in the playoffs and in order to win there, you have to get there. Williamsburg’s schedule gets much tougher toward the end of the season and if their record ends up tied with another school, forgive me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the tiebreaker come down to which team scored the most points during the regular season? There’s always room for sportsmanship but not necessarily on the scoreboard when the goal is adding points throughout the season. The playoff picture is decided by records and stats and I’m sure Williamsburg doesn’t want to get “bit” overlooking what they need in order to get a decent spot in the playoffs, or even a spot at all. But you take it one game at a time as we’ve all been told and work to make every game count, always playing at the top of your game. There is no need for name-calling or political correctness. Let the kids play and enjoy the show they put on. Rock on Raiders!

  10. Williamsburg did NOT run up the score, they just played excellent football. They have a tough conference schedule to gear up for, so they needed to have their first stringers get an opportunity to mesh together. I was at the game, and after the first drive of the 2nd half, all of the first stringers were pulled. Trust me, Williamsburg could have put up A LOT more points if they if they wanted to.

  11. And as for going for it on fourth down, this isn’t the NFL. 40 yard field goals aren’t chip shots for high school kickers. When you see a high school team going for it between the opponents 20-40 yard line, that isn’t dirty; it’s the smart thing to do.

  12. First, my son plays for the those W’Burg coaches & he loves every minute of it. Those men are classy family men who are great role models. They are not perfect but always try to what’s best for those boys. My son was up at 5:15, 4 days a week all summer lifting & condidtioning for football. There was even a group in at 5 am, lead by our coaches. Most of this team paid a heavy price the past four years to make a run (at the Dome) this season. Our Senior class did lose to CPU’s senior class as Fr. & Soph’s. Seems to me one team has gotten better…..Kicking a field goal is running it up when you are way ahead. It was 4th & long & my son said we ran a play hoping they would stop us. Our 2nd team O did finish the 1st half on the field. Our 1st team did take one series in the 2nd half then sat the rest of the game, which 99% of the coaches in the state would do. The Td CPU scored was on the 3rd team D full of guys that did not train hard this summer & our coaches put them out there anyway (very classy)….When you lose instead of whining & making excuses look in the mirror & ask “did I do everthing I could do to be successful”. You may not like the answer….Carma did come to Center Point, last night, in a nightmare wearing red helmets. I do know if W’burg does lose this season the staff & kids wont make excuses. Keep it rollin fella’s.

  13. I agree with what the previous poster said. When things fall short in life we need to look at ourselves and ask what we could have done better, not complain that the other guy did what he was supposed too, try hard to accomplish the goal of winning.

  14. quit complaining, they did not run up the score they are just a hard working team that was obviously better, they could have smoked CPU if they had wanted,,, as far as key players missing the game for CPU, if I’m not mistaken, weren’t they suspended for drinking? first game of the season and already poor losers are showing up. they train and practice every day to win, not to worry that they beat someone by too much. go big red

  15. If the coaches wanted to run all those plays they worked on during practice, why would you not let the FG unit get some practice when the game is not on the line? Better than waiting until a game is on the line. The kicker sure looked like he has quite the leg during warmups. Props go out to the Williamsburg players. The were all very impressive with their speed and strength. They really showed how tackling is supposed to be done. All that time in the weight room really paid off well. It seemed like #51 and#55 lived in the CPU backfield. I just wish the CPU players would show the same dedication. It is a real shame that only one team out of Solon/Williamsburg will make it to the Dome. Good luck Raiders in your quest.

  16. First off congrats to Williamsburg. Being a graduate of CPU, last night wasn’t a fun game. Embarrassing. It was very clear that the kids at Williamsburg have been working hard. They also have a big following. Very impressive. This Senior class at CPU is supposed to be our “Star-Athlete” team. They’ve always won their games since way back in 7th grade. But it was sloppy last night, very sloppy. Some playcalls weren’t the best. Not the outcome I was expecting at all. Get back the basics. Build our weight program up. There is lots of room for improvement. So pick it up CPU. Actually play like you have some pride. LET’S GO and have fun conditioning on Monday.

  17. Hey “Father” where do you get off saying the 3rd stringers don’t work hard? Not a fair statement. I know some of those boys have been working hard since the 7th grade and before. Sometimes it’s about size or team needs. Not work ethic. Likewise, just because you’re a starter doesn’t mean you have worked hard, sometimes talent/size plays a role. I am a Williamsburg grad and the parent of a current player and I thought the starters were in too long. That game wasn’t very fun to watch. But I also remember a time when Williamsburg was often on the other side of the blow-out, it happens you can’t blame the kids for wanting to play. As for the Solon score, maybe it was closer than some would like because there is a difference between 3A and 2A competition and had very little to do with sportmanship? Just a thought.

  18. Congrats to Williamsburg on the impressive win. What makes a football program is depth. Depth of talent, commitment, and experience.

Williamsburg needed their starters to start the second half because whatever the score, there were things they needed to work on at half, any quality coach will make changes to the gameplan and technique during the halftime. The kids need to learn how to make thoses changes.

The second and third string teams need to play hard. Those kids might not be starting, but a good effort on film might get them a shot at relief play or special teams. To play on a highly reguarded team is an honor that those kids will have the rest of their lives.

Football is a game that must be played at maximum intensity. Can you imagine telling a second or third string kid who has busted his butt all year long, but may not have the physical skills needed to be a starter to go into the game and lay down because the other team doesn’t match up well? Really? If you answer yes, please stop commenting on athletic things. You don’t get it.

  19. First of all thank you all for your carring about all the kids, and their coaches, and hopefully some where in there their parents who are key to it all. I grew up in W’burg and am speaking as a former bench warmer, who just wanted to be part of a team and not work all the time. Most kids in these small schools have to balance sports school family friends and a job. Some of these kids can’t get into the “optional” workouts because they have to work(both good & bad) but the coaches still want them to be part of the team, both parties realize these kids won’t be starters but need to be part of the team. And if you ask them both parties will say it sucks but it is what it is. I say all of this because those who start and those who come in later all WORK together or they would not be winning. After any game most of the football community (Parents, coaches, & players)talks over EVERY aspect of the game which includes sportmanship so I wouldn’t worry too much about the burg boys getting big heads, their parents are pretty quick to tell them next week you will be on the otherside. Also I personaly have seen two players playing tag with a 2 yr old and an autistic kid, I think that shows compassion, how about you?

  20. Being the father of one of the CPU starters, first of let me say congratulations to Williamsburg on a well deserved victory. It is very apparent why you are ranked where you are in the polls. In reading through the posts I would just like to say that I think there have been some (not all) poor assumptions made stating that the CPU players did not work hard in the off season. While I can not speak for all of the players, I can speak for my son who did work hard all summer and put in many many hours in the weight room. It was quite obvious we were completely out sized on the line and as stated in another post not all of that comes from hard work. Some of that is just god given size. That is not to say those boys don’t work hard, but if you don’t have the shear size to begin with, no amount of hard work is going to make up the difference. When you can’t open a hole for your running backs or give your QB enough time to make a pass, its gonna be an ugly night. Good luck on the rest of your season, I am hoping we can turn things around figure out someway of narrowing the gap and get a chance to redeem ourselves against you guys in the post season.

  21. who cares it’s just football anyways
