Corby Laube, athletics director at Marion High School, hopes to have a girls’ basketball coach in place soon.
“We’re in the middle of the process,” Laube said Tuesday. “I hope in the next couple weeks, we’ll know more.”
Sherryl Gaffney-Paige stepped down after Marion’s appearance at the state tournament. The Indians were 23-2 last year and have won three consecutive championships in the Wamac Conference.
Laube said there are “a decent amount” of applicants. He would not divulge any names.
“We’ve been on spring break, now we’re back in the swing of things, and we hope to move this along,” he said.
This is the first opening for a girls’ basketball coaching job in the Metro since 2003, when Frank Howell succeeded Paul James at Cedar Rapids Washington.

they should get odonnell
from springville
I wouldn’t bet the farm against it.
O’Donnell wouldn’t be a bad fit. This will be a re-building for a little while though. Not very strong classes on a whole but a couple of good players in the freshman grade. Wamac has some very strong current Jr.’s – seniors to be in next years grades. Overall JV level in wamac games not very impressive last year.
