I’m in Winthrop for the Class 1A regional duals, featuring Alburnett, No. 4 East Buchanan, No. 9 Lisbon and West Branch. Regional dual semifinal match-ups are East Buchanan vs. West Branch and Alburnett vs. Lisbon.
I am going off the program and the pre-meet introductions. Some wrestlers may need to edited later if I don’t catch a lineup change.
We’re starting at 130.
Mitch McGraw (EB) receives a forfeit; Grant Henderson (A) majors Seth hall, 15-2. EB up 6-0 and Alburnett up, 4-0.
At 135, Matt Smith (WB) edges Travis Johnson, 6-4. East Buch leads 6-3. Tait Simpson (L) dec. Alex German (A), 7-0. Alburnett leads Lisbon, 4-3, after two matches.
At 140, 10th ranked Jake Slocum of West Branch beats #9 Max Cherry, 7-0, and ties the team score, 6-6. Lisbon’s Trevor Moore is taking on Alburnett’s Zach Hoyle right now. Hoyle with a fall with 7 seconds left in second, giving Alburnett a 10-3 lead.
At 145, #2 Justin Hoffman (EB) is wrestling Rilen Carew (WB). Nate Jubeck (L) pinned Drew Renberg (A), making it 10-9 Alburnett. Carew with a pin of Hoffman, upsetting the #2 ranked wrestler giving the Bears a 12-6 lead.
At 152, Tim Moroney (EB) vs. Jake Rozinek (WB) and Jesse jamison (L) vs. Paul Boies (A). Moroney builds 17-4 lead before a fall in 2:38. EB and WB tied 12-12. Jamison with a pin in 4:38, putting Lisbon up 15-10.
At 160, Taylor Connolly (EB) vs. Jayson Madsen (WB) and Dakota Van Dyke (L) vs. Kal Alger (A). Alger with a pin in 3:07, giving Alburnett the lead again, 16-15. Madsen pins Connolly in 4:09. West Branch leads, 18-12.
At 171, Dacoda Ward receives a forfeit for Lisbon, which now leads, 21-16. West Branch forfeits to Will Bird.
At 189, Preston Russell (L) vs. Sam Bowers (A), who was bumped up from 171. Cade Jones (WB) also moves up a weight here, facing East buch’s Jordon Gerbracht. For those who don’t know Gerbracht is showing all kinds of guts, returning from an illness earlier in the season, which included having an appendectomy. He’s wrestling at 189, but is weighing closer to 171 from what I have been told and is no where near full strength.
Bumping up works for Alburnett. Bowers claims 7-2 decision. Lisbon still leads 21-19. Gerbracht guts out a tough 9-7 decision and East buch leads 21-18.
Alburnett forfeits to Mitchell Montgomery and then Tyler Smith follows that with a 29 second fall over Zach Olinger. Lisbon in control 33-19 now.
At 215, Harrison Burrage (EB) vs. Derrick Miller (WB), Miller bumping up from 189. Burrage with a takedown nin the third period and held off a late takedown attempt for a 4-3 win. East Buch up 24-18, now.
At Hwt, Luke Bird (EB) vs. Mitch Slocum (WB). Slocum wins by major decision, 10-1. East Buch leads, 24-22, going into 103.
At 103, Hunter Hutchison (L) vs. Zach Lawrence (A). Hutchison wins by fall in 3:23, icing the meet for Lisbon, which leads 39-19 with three weights to go. West branch’s Will Seydel gets a 26-second fall over Cody Peyton, West Branch leas, 28-24 with three weights to go.
Lisbon forfeits to Tyler Shulista and Christopher Halblom at 112 and 119. Lisbon leads 39-31 with the final match between Zach West (L) and Colton Martin (A) at 125. Martin with an 8-1 decision and Lisbon wins, 39-34.
Lisbon faces the winner of East Buchanan and West Branch for a state duals berth.
Alburnett finishes dual competition at 12-12.
James hackert (EB) gets a 13-second pin over Tyler Oswald at 112. West branch forfeits 119 to EB’s Brixdon Mulford, locking up win for East Buchanan. Colton Stoddard finishes off the meet with a pin in 30 seconds over Drake Martens at 125. East Buchanan wins, 42-28.
West Branch ends dual competition at 10-7.
That sets up a regional final dual between No. 4 East Buchanan (23-2) and No. 9 Lisbon (19-4). We’ll be starting in 25 minutes.
We’re starting the regional dual fina at 135. Travis Johnson (EB) vs. Tait Simpson (L). Simpson earns 11-2 major decision and Lisbon up 4-0.
Max Cherry (EB) answers with an 18-7 major over Trevor Moore. Tied 4-4.
At 145, Jesse jamison (L) vs. #2 Justin Hoffman. Jamison handling Hoffman after giving up opening takedown. Hoffman turns jamison in the third, trailing 9-5, and gets the fall in 5:07, giving EB a 10-4 lead.
Lisbon forfeits to Tim Moroney (152) and Taylor Connolly (160). East Buchanan leads, 22-4.
At 171, Dakota Van Dyke (L) vs. #6 Will Bird. Bird wins by fall in 1:57. Bucs up, 28-4.
At 189, Jordon Gerbracht (EB) vs. Dacoda Ward. Ward scores, 17-1 tech fall, making score 28-9.
Mitchell Montgomery and Tyler Smith follow with first-period falls for Lisbon to make it, 28-21 East Buchanan. Montgomery pinned Harrison Burrage in :20, while Smith pinned Luke Bird in 1:06.
At 103, Hunter Hutchinson pins Cody Peyton in :44 to make it 28-27 EB.
At 112, James Hackert (EB) vs. Donovan Hoadley (L). Hoadley gives Lisbon a 33-28 lead with a fall in 1:27.
Three matches to go.
At 119, Kolbi Kohl (L) vs. Brixdon Mulford (EB). Kohl with pin in :53. Lisbon rolling right now, leading 39-28.
Two bouts remain. At 125, Zach West (L) vs. Colton Stoddard. West scores takedowns in the seconed and third to win 4-3 and Lisbon locks up the win with a 42-28 lead going into the final match between Seth Hall (L) vs. Mitch McGraw (EB) at 130. McGraw wins 11-4.
Lisbon wins, 42-31.
Lisbon will advance to the state duals Feb. 27 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids with a 20-4 record. East Buchanan’s dual season ends at 23-3.
