The Iowa Hawkeyes have just barely put the finishing touches on their 2010 recruiting class, but they’re already hard at work on the 2011 class. Ah, the never-ending recruiting cycle of college football.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy junior Christian French said Tuesday night that Iowa officially offered him a football scholarship last weekend. It’s the second offer for French, joining one from the Iowa State Cyclones.
“Yeah, it’s exciting,” French said.
Iowa assistant coaches Reese Morgan and Erik Campbell were at Kennedy’s basketball game against Cedar Rapids Jefferson last Friday night. The 6-foot-6 French …

CEDAR RAPIDS — Iowa City High lit up a dark old gym Tuesday night.
The Little Hawks shot 56 percent from the field, including 70 percent in the second half, and punished Class 4A No. 9 Cedar Rapids Jefferson, 76-54, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls’ basketball game at Jefferson High School.
“We just relaxed and hit some shots,” said City High Coach Bill McTaggart.
The game was originally scheduled for Jan. 5, but was moved back because of the Orange Bowl. The main gymnasium was booked by a wrestling meet, so the …

Bob Fontana let out a slight chuckle when asked if he found his basketball team again Tuesday night.
“I will say this,” the Cedar Rapids Kennedy coach said after his team upset Cedar Falls, 49-46. “I’m very proud of these kids the way they bounced back tonight.”
As well he should be. The Cougars recovered from an ugly 27-25 loss last Friday night to Cedar Rapids Jefferson with a comeback victory against the ninth-ranked team in Class 4A.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released its district assignments for the 2010 and 2011 seasons, and the Spartans will compete in Class 3A.
“We knew we’d be right on the (2A/3A) bubble. We figured we’d either move to 3A now, or in two more years,” Miller said.
Solon has won the last three 2A state championships and carries a 41-game winning streak.
“It’s a challenge, but with challenge comes opportunities,” Miller said. “We’re going to need more depth, and …

Former Cedar Rapids Jefferson assistant wrestling coach John Hegarty was right on when he described the ceremony as the night the names on the wall came alive.
Jefferson celebrated its rich wrestling tradition with a ceremony last Thursday, before its dual with Cedar Rapids Kennedy, referred to as 50 Years of J-Hawk State Finalists. Each state finalist in attendance was called to the center of the mat and had their former coach, or a representative of their former coach, raise their hand one more time.

So his decision to attend Stanford University of somewhat of a homecoming.
An all-state lineman at Linn-Mar High School, Parry orally committed to play football as a preferred walk-on at Stanford. He visited the campus last weekend.
