CEDAR FALLS — A shootout for a while. A blowout in the end.
Iowa City High collected seven sacks and four takeaways, Ellis Jordan scored three touchdowns, and the top-rated Little Hawks sent No. 4 Marshalltown — and its humongous fan base — home disappointed, 42-14, in the Class 4A football final last night at the UNI-Dome.
“It was a great effort by our whole defense,” said John Chelf, who intercepted two passes. “We had some trouble with our coverages early, but once we got that squared away, we were all right.”

CEDAR FALLS — Ellis Jordan had one of his best football games in his finale wearing an Iowa City High jersey.
The senior running back powered the Little Hawks in the first half and delivered the knockout blow in the fourth quarter, as City High beat Marshalltown, 42-14, for the Class 4A championship last night at the UNI-Dome.
Jordan rushed for 172 yards and three touchdowns, scoring on long runs of 40 and 68 yards igniting the Little Hawks in the first.

South Winneshiek has produced its most successful football seasons in school history.
The Warriors reached the playoffs for the third time in school history and first since 2003. The most important thing, however, they expected to be here even if others didn’t.
“Our No. 1 goal was making it to and winning a state championship,” Warriors senior Jordan Andera said. “The goals were crazy for South Winn that hasn’t ever had experience and hardly been in the playoffs before, but that’s what we wanted.”

SOLON — It’s not the destination. It’s the journey.
It’s not the victories and the championships and the glory.
It’s the kids.
And that’s why Kevin Miller’s emotions are a bit frayed these days. Another cycle of day-to-day interactions is coming to an end.
“I hope that when these guys are grown up, they don’t remember the championships,” said Miller, the head football coach at Solon High School. “I hope they remember me someday as someone who taught them respect and a work ethic, somebody that made them a better person.”
