Cedar Rapids Washington football coach Tony Lombardi said that running back Andre Dawson may commit as early as Wednesday.
Lombardi gave no hints where Dawson may be headed, but did confirm that he visited Purdue last weekend.
Dawson rushed for a state-leading 2,212 yards on 301 yards and 28 touchdowns as Washington finished 9-3 and reached the Class 4A state quarterfinals.

High schools across Iowa opened its wrestling rooms for their first official day of practices. State champions start the varsity season, starting to pave their way to the top of the podium once again. Others are looking to make that leap to prominence and newcomers are becoming acclimated to the high school ranks. The Linn-Mar Lions return quite a few letterwinners from last season. Even the 13 returning letterwinners are relatively young.
With the likes of juniors Jeremy Severin and Mac Mahmens, seniors Michael Green and Dailey Johnson and sophomores Mark Atwater and Mitch Wantock there is talent. Linn-Mar could be a tough team to face. A team that might be a work in progress and much better in late-January or early-February than at the season’s start.

Cedar Rapids Washington opened wrestling practice along with prep programs all across the state. The season has officially begun and a sense of optimism should be emanating from the Warriors. After a few medalists and state finalists the last few years, Washington crowned its first state champion in more than 20 years. Former Warrior heavyweight Brandon Burrell captured the Class 3A state crown in February, the first since Jamie Byrne won in 1988.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson has a long tradition in wrestling, dating back many decades. The J-Hawks kicked off another season Monday, which was the first official day for prep programs to practice.
Coach Dick Briggs, a former Jefferson wrestler, begins his 27th season as head coach at his alma mater. He guided the J-Hawks to a 9-5 dual record and a district runner-up finish that led to a Class 3A regional dual appearance last season.

The Midland Board of Education voted to institute eight man football for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Superintendent Brian Rodenberg and Athletic Director Kirk Park shared information from a meeting of parents and players. It was the consensus at that meeting to go with the eight man program. It was stressed that a football program has to be built from the bottom up, and the district needs to look at the ability to compete.
Junior high football will also go to eight man.
