Staying cool and playing smart, the Oriole Volleyball team took care of Calamus Wheatland in three games Wednesday night to advance to the next round of play.
Game two was a little close for comfort, but the score was misleading, for there was never really any doubt that the Orioles would come away victorious. 
Maggie Ray led all players in kills, and the Orioles, propelled by great offensive plays by Hannah Loehr, CJ Fitzgerald, Hope Matus and Katie Wyman,  dominated the match from the start.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released its postseason sectional and district assignments. The road to the state tournament has been revealed.
All but one of the Cedar Rapids/Marion Metro is grouped together at the Cedar Rapids Jefferson district. Cedar Rapids Prairie was excluded and sent west to the district at Marshalltown, which includes defending state champion Waverly-Shell Rock.

WINTHROP — Shelbie Beatty and Danielle Schweitzer run better than they recruit.
“We’ve tried,” Schweitzer said of their futile quest to roust some schoolmates and form a complete girls’ cross country team at East Buchanan. “But we haven’t succeeded.”
It’s a shame, because very few small-school squads in Iowa would be able to match the Buccaneers’ frontrunning duo.
Instead, Beatty and Schweitzer head to Arlington, site of today’s Class 1A regional meet, focused merely on themselves.
