CEDAR RAPIDS — It no longer appears an issue of if.
It’s when.
Cedar Valley Christian, a small private school in southeast Cedar Rapids, looks to be headed toward sanctioning by the Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union for interscholastic competition.
A preliminary meeting was held Monday night; a follow-up is scheduled for next week.
“We’re getting input from our families, and our school board is very interested,” said Jan Todd, the school’s athletics director. “We’re trying to determine how it will impact our families.”

Iowa City High won a four-team meet Monday at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City. The Little Hawks shot 155, beating Cedar Rapids Xavier by seven shots. Cedar Rapids Washington was third (166) and Iowa City West was fourth (172). City’s Grant Simpson was medalist.
Jason Beer (39) led Xavier. Sam Eichhorn and Ryan Shield each shot 42 for West and Jack Shey (37) led Washington.

Monticello, rated 11th in Class 2A, captured its second tournament title of the season Saturday, winning at Lisbon.
“This business of winning tournaments and being ranked, it’s all kind of new to me,” said Stacie Breitbach, in her third year as the Panthers’ head coach.
