Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Iowa City West missed chance after chance to put the other away. The Cougars just held their ground longer.
Kennedy’s Royce Bell ran for a 4-yard touchdown in overtime and Kennedy defeated West, 23-17, Friday night at Trojan Field.
Bell gained 143 of his 176 yards in the second half and ran for a pair of touchdowns as the Cougars pulled out a victory after West blocked a would-be game-winning field goal to end regulation.

If you listen closely you still might hear the echoes of a giant “Whew!”
Top-ranked Iowa City High received a tough test from Cedar Rapids Xavier, and the Little Hawks barely passed.
Ellis Jordan sparkled during a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 2:55 left in the game, helping City High avoid the upset and claim a 24-17 win in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Xavier’s Saints Field.
A coach approached Ellis Jordan after the victory and said, “Special teams are special.” A fitting statement.

The Class 3A District 4 race isn’t over. After all, it’s just begun.
But the Marion Indians have taken a giant step toward the championship.
The Indians feasted on five turnovers, got touchdowns from six different players and planted a red and gold blemish on homecoming for No. 5 DeWitt Central, 49-21, in a pivotal district football encounter Friday night at Birney Field.

So many aspects go into the composition of a great wrestler. It’s very apparent that physical skills and  attributes are just a part of a complex formula to create a winner on the mat.
