There will be football at Armstrong Field in Marion this fall.
Linn-Mar Athletics Director Scott Mahmens said all systems are go for the Lions’ Sept. 18 home game with Cedar Rapids Washington.
“We walked on it Monday, and the field is in great shape,” Mahmens said. “If the water would have sat there for three or four days, it would have been a different story. The big question was the electrical system, the scoreboard and the lights. But we fired them up and they work fine.”

Coaches are a brave sort and the majority of the Cedar Rapids/Metro coaches have agreed to contribute to Crossface Chronicles. Five of the seven Metro prep wrestling coaches have confirmed their participation in what we hope will be a regular video feature on the blog.
The opening set of videos will include coaches addressing certain topics that surround wrestling. We’re still ironing out topics and which coach will address each, but it’s a guarantee they will include worthwhile information for wrestlers, parents and fans in general. Here are the pool assignments for the Warrior Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday at Cedar Rapids Washington:
Pool A — Solon, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Martensdale-St. Marys, Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
Pool B — Dyersville Beckman, Oskaloosa, Davis County, Cedar Rapids Washington.
Pool C — Oak Park (Mo.), Linn-Mar, Sigourney, Davenport Central.
Pool D — Marion, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Johnston, North Fayette.
Pool play begins at 9 a.m. Bracket play is scheduled to start at 3 p.m., with the championship match set for 6.
